The Tribe Of Alberta

We Leave Nobody Behind

What if Alberta were independent today? Would its people willingly choose to join Canada?

In The Tribe of Alberta, author Mike Heier confronts this provocative question with a fact-driven case for sovereignty, fairness, and accountable government. Drawing upon decades of involvement in Western Canadian independence movements, he examines how federal centralization, economic imbalance, regulatory control, and political underrepresentation have shaped Alberta’s place within Confederation.

Mike presents a detailed vision for an independent Alberta, one grounded in constitutional restraint, economic freedom, energy sovereignty, effective healthcare, responsible immigration, public safety, national defence, and meaningful citizen power. At its heart is a defining civic principle: Alberta is one tribe, and no one should be left behind.

Bold, comprehensive, and written to inspire serious reflection, The Tribe of Alberta asks Albertans to reconsider what their province is, what it could become, and whether the time has come to build something better.

About The Author

Mike Heier

Mike Heier has been involved in Western Canadian independence movements since the 1980s, including the Tribe of Western Canada and a renewed independence effort around 2018–2019.

A former Canadian military infantryman who served during the height of the Cold War, Mike believes strongly in defending those unable to defend themselves and acting without personal interest. His professional journey includes founding several companies, sometimes operating two ventures simultaneously. Both success and failure helped shape his practical understanding of leadership, responsibility, and growth.

Now sixty-six, Mike approaches Alberta’s future from a centrist, fact-based perspective focused on fairness, freedom, accountability, and human dignity.

About The book

The Tribe Of Alberta

We Leave Nobody Behind

The Tribe of Alberta presents a detailed and thought-provoking case for Alberta’s independence. Mike Heier examines the province’s relationship with Confederation, its role as a major economic contributor, and the political structures that have limited its control over its resources and future.

Moving beyond criticism, the book outlines how an independent Alberta could approach taxation, energy, healthcare, policing, defence, immigration, education, constitutional rights, and government accountability. Each proposal is guided by a central belief: Alberta’s people have the ability to build a prosperous, responsible, and united tribe in which government serves its citizens, and no one is left behind.
